The main activities will be taking place by the harbour, near to the Fener Bar and also near Kalkan Beach. KTLN has now obtained the final schedule of events, although the timing of events early in the day is a little unclear. Here is what we have found out. The day's events will start at around 10.00 to 10.30am. There will be some water based fun and games. There will be swimming races, so if you want to take part, bring your swimming gear along. There will also be a fun competition, which sounds like something out of It's a Knockout. Basically, it involves a horizontal wooden pole smothered in olive oil, fixed over the sea. At the far end of the pole is a flag. The aim is to work your way along the pole and grab the flag. Sounds easy doesn't it. If only we could bring Stuart Hall over to do the commentary. The other competition I have heard about is even more bizarre. Something may have got lost in translation, but as far as I can understand it, a duck will be let loose and the idea is to catch it again. I have probably missed out some important features of the competition, but in essence it is a duck catching game. We understand that some time in the afternoon - possibly around 4.30pm, there may be a dash back to the harbour by a number of local boats. This is based upon a conversation I had today with a local skipper, and I therefore assume it to be true. At around 8.30pm it is planned to have a slide show of photographs from earlier in the day. This show will be held behind Kalkan Beach, in front of the children's playground.
The title of the play is Bizi Hiç Böyle Görmediniz, which roughly translates as 'You have not seen us like this before'. It looks at the funny side of having children. The performance is in Turkish (naturally), however there is a lot of visual comedy, so even if you don't speak a word of Turkish you can enjoy the show. Finally, we have received confirmation that the evening's entertainment will be finished off just after 10pm with a performance of the latest dance craze sweeping Turkey - the Kolbastı, performed by the Black Sea Boys, who are currently appearing at the No Name Bar. Article Updated: Tuesday evening 30th June. The Kalkan Festival of the Sea will take place on Wednesday 1st July.
The other thing we know for sure is that there will be a play performed by a local theatre group at 9pm. This will be in the same place as the slide show - behind Kalkan Beach. The play, a comedy, is being performed by the Kaş-Kalkan Sanat Tiyatrosu group.
