The Kalkan Festival of the Sea took place yesterday, Wednesday 1st July.  On a hot, sunny day hundreds of people gathered to cheer on competitors in the swimming competitions.  We also saw a version of walking the plank, using a long wooden pole smothered in olive oil.  The duck catching competition didn't happen. 

In the late afternoon, several boats raced into Kalkan harbour, and in the evening a play was performed behind Kalkan Beach, followed by the Black Sea Boys who performed the Kolbastı dance.  Photos from the day are shown below.
