Burglaries in Kalkan PDF Print E-mail

It seems that as the temperature is rising in Kalkan, so are incidents of attempted burglaries.

Over the last week, properties in the Kızıltaş area of town (between Bezirgan Road and Kaş Road) have  been repeatedly targeted in the early hours of the morning - typically between 2am and 4am.  In the instances where the robbers were disturbed, they ran off.  Prior to this recent spate there have been break ins in other areas of Kalkan.  Who knows where they will be next week.

KTLN has written about this type of crime before.  It's not unique to Kalkan - far from it.  However, if you come to Kalkan to have a good time, and are unfortunate enough to be targeted, it's enough to spoil your holiday.

The sad fact is that it is very difficult indeed for the authorities to catch these nocturnal burglars in the act, and apprehend them.  And incidentally, to keep this subject in perspective, the same fact applies wherever you may live, be that in Kalkan, Kaş or Kettering.

Realistically, the best course of action you can take is to minimise the chance of you and your property being targeted by robbers.  Many of the things you can do cost nothing, or are incredibly cheap to install.

Everyone comes on holiday with the intention of relaxing and having a good time.  For many people that involves having a few drinks in a restaurant over dinner and maybe after in a local bar.  After such an evening, when you return to your villa or apartment, it is easy to forget to check that all the doors and windows are securely closed.  So no matter how tired or 'relaxed' you may be, remember to lock your doors and windows.

It is important to stress that Kalkan is still a safe place to be, but even when you are on holiday, and hopefully relaxing and enjoying yourself, it is common sense to take the same safety and security precautions you would take at home.

This article is not written with the intention of alarming anyone, but simply as a reminder that you should have your wits about you.  And finally, despite these unfortunate incidents, there is still nowhere else we would rather be than Kalkan.
