At approximately 16:30 local time, up to four fire-fighting sea planes were seen scooping up water in Kalamar Bay to drop on the nearby flames. See the photos below. There were reports that the Turkish Forestry Commission had many men in the area working to prevent the fire spreading further. It is undertood that helicopters were also used to fight the fire, but these were not seen near to Kalkan. One local resident from Kalamar said the sight of the planes sweeping across Kalamar Bay was spectacular, adding that they appeared to be flying no more than 50 feet above the rooftops, in their approach to the sea. KTLN has no information yet on damage caused or whether there were any casualties. The photos below were taken by Fiona Gray.

Yesterday, Friday 31st July, a forest fire broke out in Gökçeören, a village between Kalkan and Kaş - not far from Sarıbelen.
