KTLN beat the heat - no cook recipiesWith temperatures soaring in Kalkan, nobody wants to turn on the oven to cook a meal.  So this month, KTLN has come up with some great ‘no-cook’ food ideas which will be published weekly.  Here is our fourth recipe.

All the ingredients are available in Kalkan.

And don't forget, KTLN members can see lots of fantastic Turkish recipies every day in our Knowledge Bank, in the Culture, History & Language section.  Click on the following link to check them out: Turkish Cuisine

Vanilla Ice cream with Almond Liqueur and Dark Chocolate - serves 4 - 6

Ingredients
  • 1 tub vanilla ice cream
  • 1 bottle Aci Badem (almond liqueur available in local supermarkets)
  • 1 small bar plain dark chocolate
  • 1 small packet almonds
Buy good quality vanilla ice cream.  For example, Carte d'Or from local supermarkets or from Dunya Ice cream parlour about 100 metres up the Kalamar road on the right hand side.

Method

Keep the ice cream in the freezer when you are preparing the topping.

Freeze the chocolate for a minimum of fifteen minutes then keeping it in the wrapping, bang it hard, several times on the kitchen worktop, until it breaks into small pieces (the chocolate that is, not the worktop).

With a sharp knife, chop the almonds in half, mix with the chocolate.

Open the bottle of Aci Badem, pour out one wine glass (drink the rest of the bottle at your leisure).

Divide the ice cream into the number of portions required.

Scatter over the chocolate and nut mixture.

Pour over the Aci Badem, and serve immediately.
