Local man dies in hit and run incident PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 29 September 2013

Ali GurbuzAli Karagül, better known to many as "Fisherman Ali" or "Kaptan Ali" died this evening, (Sunday), when he was hit by a vehicle as he walked home on the D400, in the dark, from Kalkan to his home in Ulugöl.

The Jandarma have told KTLN that the driver did not stop, and the Antalya Police and Jandarma are actively searching for him or her.  A small piece of the car was left behind at the scene of the accident.

Ali was an unmistakable and well known character in Kalkan.  He could often be seen in the harbour by his fishing boat, usually surrounded by cats that he would feed with any leftover fish.

He would go out fishing early in the morning, sell his catch to the local restaurants, and by the afternoon he had time to sit down and relax with his friends at the harbour, chatting over a beer or two, or perhaps something a bit stronger.

Ali was not married but he does leave behind a brother and sister.  It is such a tragic end to the life of one of Kalkan's true characters.

Allah rahmet eylesin.
