John Joseph KirkhamIt is reported that the body of missing walker John Joseph Kirkham has been found in a riverbed near to Kozağaç, not far from Ölü Deniz.

The 68 year old British tourist from Fleetwood, Lancashire, went missing whilst walking on the Lycian Way in the Ovacik/Ölü Deniz area on Monday 10th August 2009.

A two week search by the Jandarma and a specialist mountain rescue team (AKUT) had failed to locate Mr Kirkham.

It is impossible to know exactly what happened, however there is speculation that he may have lost his balance and fallen down a steep slope down to the riverbed.

Now that temperatures are cooling, we are approaching the main walking season in this part of the world.  This tragic case highlights the importance of walking with others, so that the alarm can be raised, should problems arise.
