Share Time for another brief update on planned work the roads in and around Kalkan. In this article we report on the D400 - Kaş/Fethiye Road, the new road to Kızıltaş, and the planned new road to Akbel. D400 - Kaş/Fethiye Road We believe that the central department responsible for managing this project would like to begin as soon as possible, but Kalkan Belediye is keen to delay resumption as long as possible, so as to minimise noise disturbance for visitors and residents. From experience, it is notoriously difficult to predict the timing of such things with any accuracy. However, amongst all the uncertainty, we can bring you some new information, which we believe to be quite certain. The contract to build this stretch of the D400, up to a point beyond Kışla, (as outlined in our May report), stipulates that the contractors have 600 days to complete the task, from 12th September 2009. If they miss the deadline, penalties will be incurred. So here is the deadline date for your diary: Wednesday 4th May 2011. It's already in the KTLN What's On Calendar, in case you are wondering! New road to Kızıltaş
Some local people already use this route as a walkway, but the creation of a proper road will provide access for vehicles. Vatan Caddesi already joins the existing road to Akbel (Kadife Sokak) and this access point will remain. Work on this new road is scheduled to begin once the main 2009 tourist season ends. There will be an additional small road built at the main D400 junction, which will pass to the right of the Arçelik shop. It will follow the existing concrete water gulley and will eventually connect up with Vatan Caddesi.
