ShareOn Thursday 8th October, the Kalkander Association held a public meeting at the Pinar Büfe, behind Kalkan Beach, to let people know what they have been doing recently, and also to explain what kind of things they plan to support in future. Kalkan Turkish Local News thought you might be interested to hear about this, so here is s short report on the work of the association. The association was established six years ago by a number of Kalkan residents, who wanted an organisation that could harness the goodwill and community spirit of local volunteers, for the benefit of the entire town. We quote from their website: "Kalkander (Kalkanlilar Dernegi - The Kalkan Association) is a non-governmental organization established in 2003. The association aims to foster community spirit within Kalkan, help to improve civil organizations and to raise consciousness regarding cultural, educational, sports, touristic, archaeological and environmental activities. Furthermore, Kalkander aims to create and maintain collaborations with the local government as well as the private sector to benefit society in the long term. In short, we wish to make Kalkan a better place". Annual General Meeting The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Kalkander Association took place on 29th June 2009, and a new chairman and committee were appointed, as follows:
At the AGM, Mayor Saim Karakurt paid tribute to the outgoing Chairman, Ergun Duran, for his stewardship over recent years. Kalkan Turkish Local News thinks this is such an excellent scheme. Not only is it a good way of directly supporting those students who need help, but it also indirectly benefits the families and communities from which these children have come. For obvious reasons, much of this work is not publicised. It goes on quietly in the background, but it is no less effective for that.
The website of Kalkander Association is being updated and the refreshed pages will be ready to view on Thursday 15th October. This includes details of how to become a member. Here is the link: Kalkander AssociationShare |
