Yes, this is Kalkan Bay, the racehorse; so named by his owners Ken and Delia Shaw, who have a villa in Kalkan, overlooking the bay.

The view from their villa terrace is stunning, and obviously inspired them when it came to choosing a name for their latest horse.

When you decide upon a name for a racehorse in the UK it has to be submitted to Weatherbys for approval.  When Ken and Delia sent off their forms, they were in for a surprise.

They got an email back from the person who deals with name registrations, saying that if their horse was named after Kalkan Bay in Turkey, it must be beautiful.  The man at Weatherbys has a place in Kalkan!

Kalkan Bay will not be racing until 2010 - he is too young to race right now, but watch out for him in future.  The owners have already got winners in their stable, and they have great hopes for their latest purchase.  We will let you know how his training progresses.
