Republic DayCelebrations in Turkey for Republic Day start today - Wednesday 28th October.

Banks and all government offices will close at lunchtime today.  A brief ceremony will take place by Atatürk's statue (close to Doy Doy restaurant) at 1.30pm today.

Tomorrow, Thursday 29th October will see more celebrations, starting at 9am at Kalkan First School.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  There will be poems, singing, dancing and no doubt a few speeches.  The Mayor of Kalkan, Saim Karakurt will be there, together with other VIP guests.

Later, in the evening, starting at 7pm, the celebrations will continue with a party down by the harbour.  Please see our earlier news article, which tells you all about it.

It is worth mentioning that if the weather is particularly bad, there may be a last minute change of venue, to somewhere under cover.  We are not sure where this will be, but if the location is changed we will try to let you know.

If you are in Kalkan why not come along to either of these events, and join our Turkish friends to celebrate this most important date in their calendar.

The school band can be heard right now practicing!
