Damp end to the 2009 tourist season PDF Print E-mail

Kalkan skiesWhen the Merkez Cafe closes, you know it's just about the end of the main tourist season.

And with the weather we have had in Kalkan this week, those hot summer days seem a long time ago.

The last week in October has been a bit of a washout, if we are being honest.  Fortunately, it stayed dry long enough for the Republic Day celebrations to take place on Thursday.

Yesterday afternoon (Saturday), you could see people looking out to sea at a mini tornado heading towards the shore.  It was nothing like as powerful or spectacular as the one that we saw in March 2008, but it was enough to turn a few heads.  And in the evening there was torrential rain.

In the photo below you can see the tornado (or more accurately a water spout), heading in the direction of a small boat.  Fortunately, the wind fizzled out and the boat was spared.  You can also see an amazing contrast in the colour of the sky - black on the top left and blue on the top right.

It was also noticeably cooler last night.  Time to dig out the duvet!

Below: Here comes the water spout.
