As an owner of a property in Kalkan, this site seemed an excellent way of keeping in touch, especially as for much of the year I am not able to be out there.

Monsoon rain hits Kalkan PDF Print E-mail

Rainy KalkanKalkan witnessed some torrential rain yesterday, Wednesday 11th November 2009.

In the late morning we had what felt like a mini monsoon, as the rain came down hard.

It stopped for a while, rained again, and then remained dry for the rest of the afternoon.

As ever, the danger with these rainstorms comes from flash floods - water running off the mountains, and down towards the harbour.

A number of roads were covered in debris, especially Şehitler Caddesi, which goes from the D400 traffic lights, near the petrol station, down to the centre of town.  The hill leading down to the harbour was rock-strewn, but otherwise intact.

Driving conditions were quite bad in the morning, but Belediye workmen worked hard and the roads were soon cleared.
