Çaliş at ChristmasIf you fancy a day trip from Kalkan before Christmas, the popular Çalış Christmas Fair and Craft Market takes place on Sunday 6 December.

The festive event, now in its third year, which is held in and around the bars and restaurants on Çalış seafront, attracts visitors from all over Muğla and is now an established event in the social calendar of Çalış.

Last year’s event attracted over 100 stalls selling all types of Christmas goods, festive fare, crafts, paintings, presents, cards and decorations and included several charity stalls.  This year's event should be just as busy.

It is being organized by the Çaliş Carnival Committee, a group of volunteers comprising of both Turkish and foreign residents, who are working "hand in hand" for the benefit of Çaliş.

This year’s event which runs from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm promises to be a great day out. Father Christmas will arrive in his “sleigh” at about 1.00 pm, accompanied by carnival mascot Tommy Turtle and helper Alf the Elf. He will then take up residence in his balloon grotto outside the Nicholas Homes office where for a small entrance fee, children will be able to meet him and receive a gift.

Stalls will sell all types of Christmas goods and fare, including craft stalls selling everything from hand made mosaic light shades and canal art to stone garden ornaments. There will be Christmas music, tombola, a grand Carnival Christmas Charity raffle, mulled wine, roast chestnuts and mince pies.

During the afternoon, recently formed Çalış choir, the Sunset Singers will be inviting you to join them in singing some popular Christmas songs.
It promises to be a great family day out, an ideal place to pick up Christmas presents and unusual little stocking fillers, plus of course a great chance to get into the festive spirit.

All money raised from the stall fees along with sales from the various Carnival committee stalls will go towards the Çalış Carnival charity, helping disadvantaged children in the local area.

If you would like to book a stall at this popular event please ring 0535 8554919 or 0536 3739520. Each stall (2 tables width) costs 15 TL including table hire. Recognised charity stalls will be allowed one stall for free.
