The most powerful thing about the site is the combination of such useful, informative and educative information about Kalkan (and Turkey) in one web site.  Kalkan News is the first thing I read on KTLN.

Kaş Belediye video

With the mainstream UK media drip-feeding us a never ending diet of negative stories from Turkey, countries neighbouring Turkey and indeed Europe itself I wanted to have a reality check and remind KTLN readers what it is really like here in Kalkan.

To be honest I know that many of you, dear KTLN readers, don't need reminding but please feel free to spread this message to those who may be in need of reassurance.  Share the love!

I highly recommend watching the following video from Kaş Belediye.  It's a short film published on You Tube that promotes the area where I am fortunate enough to live, and it's rather good.  It features many places that Kalkan visitors would be familiar with - in fact most of the locations featured are within a short drive of Kalkan.

Reality versus headlines
And I know what you're thinking - it's a slick video - a "PR puff", as they say.  Well yes, I suppose it is.  But the thing is, it does truthfully reflect the Turkey that I know and love much more accurately than the headline grabbing stuff in the UK press.  What you see in the video is what I personally see when I travel round here on a daily basis.

Yes it's a PR video but it's not some kind of candy floss, manufactured, make believe world.  What you see is - Kalkan, Kaş, Patara, Xanthos, Saklıkent, Kekova, Gömbe and the rest.  It's real.  It exists.  It's amazing.

Sadly fewer people have come to Turkey on holiday this year and they have missed out.  I do genuinely understand why some people have been put off by the relentless negativity in the UK press, but it's a shame because Kalkan and other nearby towns are not suffering from any of the problems being reported.  My experience this year is very much reflected in this video.  So please watch it and enjoy it and share it.

Who knows, maybe next year more people will believe us rather than the mainstream media.  Then again, what do we know - we only live here!

P.S. Whilst we are at it we would like to draw your attention to a few other videos that were created by KTLN which show some of the things that make this part of the Turquoise Coast so special to us.
