Following on from Simon Calder’s recent positive comments about coming to Turkey, fellow journalist Michael Buerk has provided another vote of confidence in the Turquoise Coast.
Buerk added, “We all want to be in Turkey right now. Look at the lousy weather outside - it’s grey, rainy and depressing. The only thing I’m thinking about right now is for April to arrive as soon as possible and going to Turkey”.
Speaking yesterday, Tuesday 10th January at the Turkish stand at the London Boat Show, the veteran journalist spoke of his love of Turkey and countered some of the exaggerated scare stories in the media by stating that he feels safer in Turkey than he does in London.
Buerk is a senior correspondent who has reported from war-torn countries all over the world. He is a seasoned traveller who has pretty much seen it all, so you could say he knows what he is talking about. He’s no fool when it comes to assessing risk. Commenting on how there are risks in a number of places around the world he concluded that the risks of coming to the Turquoise Coast are acceptable.

A refreshing change
It’s a refreshing change to hear some common sense being spoken, although we doubt very much that Michael Buerk’s comments will make any headlines - apart from here at KTLN.
Michael has a boat in Göcek and he has been sailing these waters for 25 years. He has visited Kalkan in the past. No deluded terrorist is going to stop him returning to a place he loves. We salute his common sense and resolute spirit and wish him a happy holiday when he returns this spring.
You can read more about what Michael Buerk had to say in this Hurriyet report (in Turkish).
Representing Turkey at the London Boat Show is Ergun Dündar from local company Boat Trip Turkey. He and his colleagues on the Turkey stand are promoting sailing holidays along the Mediterranean and Aegean Coast.
Between 13th and 15th January you can also find them at the Telegraph Travel Show at ExCel London. We wish them well in their work promoting our part of Turkey. Kolay gelsin.
