New Year's Day Looney Dook 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Looney Dookers on 1st January 2009Over indulged over the holiday period?  What better way to detox than an invigorating New Year's Day dip, and at the same time helping to raise some money for Kalkan's needier children and elderly.

For any wee sassenachs out there, a 'looney dook' is a Scottish phrase, which can be loosely translated as a number of slightly insane people taking a dip in the sea, in winter.

The organiser of this fun event is Robert Ferguson.  He told Kalkan Turkish Local News, "Last year we raised 600 TL and this year we hope to improve on that sum".

The Looney Dook takes place at 12 noon on 1st January 2010, at the Kalkan town beach.  Fancy dress is optional, but preferred - the loonier, the better.

All surviving Looney Dookers will receive a complimentary nip, purely for medicinal reasons.  It is hoped that - weather permitting - the Kleo Bar will be open for those wishing to 'retox'.

Participants and spectators will be invited to make a donation, which will help a few people in the Kalkan area enjoy life just a little bit more.

If you wish to take part, please let Robert know.  If you are unable to attend but wish to give a donation, Robert would be delighted to hear from you.
