Harbour car park barriers

Workmen were busy installing car park barriers down at the harbour today.

This work heralds the introduction of new parking charges which will apply 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  It's not known whether the barriers will remain in place out of season.

As far as we know there are no further plans to charge for parking in Kalkan although we suspect that many people would welcome improved management of parking around town.  If we hear any more we will of course provide an update.

In the absence of any further parking charges being introduced we wonder whether these solitary charges down at the harbour will push some parking back on to the already congested streets.

The barriers themselves appear to be automated and capable of issuing tickets but it is entirely possible that the barriers could be operated manually by a parking attendant.  However it is going to operate we suggest having some loose change with you.  At this stage we do not know if payment by plastic card is an option. (To be confirmed).

Below we provide the proposed charges as they have been explained to us.

Kalkan harbour parking charges - in force 24 hours a day, every day

  • First 15 minutes - free
  • First hour - 5TL
  • Every additional hour - 1TL

So for example, if you parked there at 09.30 and left at 17.30 the cost would be 12TL.

We have no information to indicate different charges being applied for scooters and motorbikes.
