Kalkan wedding - Gary Whittaker and Lindsay Driver PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 11 July 2017

Kalkan wedding 6th June 2017Kalkan is a great place to get married.  But don't just take our word for it.

In this report we hand over to Lew Whittaker, father of the groom to tell us in his own words how it went.

We have known Lew for many years now and he is a true Kalkan fan.  Through this family event he has introduced many first timers to Kalkan.  We suspect that for many of them their first visit won't be their last.

Wedding report by Lew and Caroline Whittaker.

After what seems a long wedding celebration, we had the UK celebration last Saturday, we thought we would update you on the recent wedding in Kalkan.

Our son Gary Whittaker married Lindsay Driver on Tuesday 6th June 2017 in the lovely town of Kalkan. This had been arranged over 18 months and involved a number of guests both younger end and not so young end.

Initially the invitations went out with some hesitation from Gary and Lindsay as to who would attend because at the end of the day this was "Turkey".

The response was unbelievably positive and was met with "if it is safe for you then we will come". The end result was 36 people attending.

Below: Gary Whittaker and Lindsay Driver on their big day.

Arrivals and accommodation
The majority of the guests arrived on 3rd June and transfers were arranged through Xpress Tours. This in itself was a marathon as guests were flying in at different times and from differing airports however with a little delay on a couple of flights all was sorted.

Guests were scattered around from Rhapsody Hotel to Yelken Aparts and Hotel Kalkan Park. The Bride and Groom stayed with both sets of parents as well as best man's family and bride's sister's family, at Villa Halcyon. This is one of Korsan's Villas at the top of Kalamar Bay.

Meet and Greet was arranged at Yelken Bistro where Nafi and staff ensured a lovely evening with the males heading into town to celebrate the night before!

The actual wedding event was scheduled for 6pm at Villa Halcyon and could not have been a more spectacular setting as is shown by the photographs. The canapes and bubbly were sorted out once again by Nafi.

The whole wedding package had been arranged through Rosie at Kalkan Concierge. Up to this point the meticulous way she had organised the event was spectacular, let's hope it carried on!

The ceremony duly took place with a huge input from Rosie who had organised an array of flowers, photographer and seating arrangements for the guests.

After the ceremony and photographs all the guests made their way down to the wedding breakfast which was being held at Salt and Pepper. A fleet of vehicles had been arranged through Xpress Tours.

Salt and Pepper had clearly pulled out all the stops and the evening flowed into the early hours. Everyone had a great time. We cannot thank the staff at Salt and Pepper enough. It was perfect and idyllic.

After the event a get together meal was arranged at Mussaka where there were 25 people. Mehmet and his team ensured another lovely evening.

All in all a fantastic week was had by all.

Falling in love - with Kalkan
Having spoken to all of the guests throughout the week the 20 or so who had never been to Turkey before, let alone Kalkan, stated they would never have even considered Turkey and had only come because of the invite to the wedding.

When they left it was unanimous. They all have fallen in love with Kalkan and will return.

The magic of Kalkan has got to the hearts of a lot of new people who are now looking at not only coming back but they will be bringing friends and family too.

The local community were fantastic on the day and the clapping, cheering and love shone through on the day.

In particular we should mention that everything went without a hitch due to the very professional organisation of Rosie.  She delivered a day to remember.

Kalkan is in our hearts.

Lew and Caroline.
