Christmas Fairs in Fethiye 2017 PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 01 December 2017

Christmas FairThe festive season gets a real boost soon with the return of two popular Christmas Fairs held in Fethiye.

First of all there is the FIG Christmas Fair on Wednesday 6th December, between 11.00 and 16.00.  This takes place at the Fethiye Kordon - next to Address restaurant.  Note that originally this was due to be held on 28th November but was postponed due to bad weather.

Then on Sunday 10th December there is the Çalış Christmas Fair organised by Çalış Children’s Charity (3Cs), which is scheduled to start at 11.00.

As well as an abundance of stalls selling traditional Christmas decorations, tree ornaments, garlands, candles, cards, cakes, preserves, chutneys, pickles and a myriad of other Christmas items, there will be lots of craft stalls selling beautiful hand-made gift items and paintings.

Some of the stalls are coming from as far away as Kaş, Kalkan and Marmaris. There will also be a number of charity stalls from across the area raising money for various good causes.

FIG and Çalış Children’s Charity (3Cs) are properly registered charities that raise funds for good causes in the Fethiye area.

Saint Nicholas
Here is an interesting post script for you.  The original Santa Claus came from nearby Patara - we assume all KTLN readers know that by now.

But you may not know that Saint Nicholas died on 6th December 343 AD at the age of 73, so the day of the rescheduled FIG Christmas Fair is the anniversary of his death.

This date is known as Saint Nicholas Day or the Feast of St Nicholas and it is celebrated by certain Christians all over the world.  Normally the people of Demre (just an hour or so drive from Kalkan) commemorate this date and you may find that they have some events lined up.
