PATABLast month, Kalkan Mayor, Saim Karakurt attended a meeting, together with a number of other local politicians, to establish the Kaş to Patara Business Association for Environmental Protection and Tourism Infrastructure (Kaş Patara Çevre Koruma Turizm Altyapı Tesislerini Yapma ve İşletme Birliği).

This is quite a mouthful, so it's called PATAB for short.  So, what is PATAB all about?

The organisation includes Kaş, Patara, Kalkan, Ova, Kınık, Yeşilköy and other smaller outlying villages.

All of these places have agreed to form a joint organisation to work together on a number of important matters, relating to tourism and the environment.  By working together and pooling certain resources, they aim to deliver improved standards.

For example, in addition to any existing local emergency services (ambulances and fire trucks), PATAB aim to have centrally located vehicles that will complement resources in individual towns.

Other areas where they plan to work together include water supply, waste water treatment and infrastructure works.  The group will also work together to promote tourism in the area.
