Dalaman airport - new international terminal to open 28th April 2018 PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 14 January 2018

Dalaman new terminalDalaman is the most convenient airport for people visiting Kalkan.  According to KTLN surveys over 90% of Kalkan visitors arrive via this airport.

Back in 2015 work began on building a new international terminal at Dalaman.  The old domestic terminal was demolished, with internal flights temporarily managed alongside overseas flights within the international terminal.

The first concrete of the new terminal was laid in August 2016 and the finished complex, costing some 250 million euros, is due to open on schedule, on Saturday 28th April 2018 - just in time for the new tourist season.  The current international terminal will then be used for domestic flights only.

Below: The first concrete was laid in April 2016.

Decrease %
 2014 3,297,000
 2015 3,153,000 -4%
 2016 1,822,000 -42%
 2017 2,275,000 +25%

In 2015 and 2016 international arrivals at Dalaman fell, but in 2017 the numbers were much better.  Last year Dalaman was the fifth busiest airport in Turkey for international passengers, after Istanbul Atatürk, Antalya, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and Izmir.

Jet2.comTourism is bouncing back
And this brand new terminal will start operating at a time when tourism in Turkey is bouncing back.  All the signs are that bookings are on the up this year and a number of flight and tour operators are scaling up capacity for 2018, including the likes of TUI, Thomas Cook and Jet2.

This year Dalaman will have direct flights from the following UK airports: Manchester; London Gatwick; London Stansted; Luton; Newcastle; Birmingham; Glasgow; Bristol; Leeds Bradford; East Midlands; Belfast; Cardiff; Norwich; Edinburgh; Liverpool; Aberdeen; Doncaster and Bournemouth.

The statistics
If you’re interested in a few facts and figures, the new terminal building will have a closed area of 155,000 m2, an apron barrier building covering 167 m2, a power plant and energy distribution building covering 6,000 m2 and new parking facilities with a capacity of 284 cars, 220 buses, and 368 other vehicles.  There will also be a viaduct nearly 760 m long.

With connection roads, parks, a biological treatment plant, solar energy system and other auxiliary buildings the new terminal will be energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly.

The passenger capacity of the new terminal at Dalaman Airport will be a staggering 15 million so they are certainly building for the future.

We hope that you get a chance to try it out this year.
