Village Discovery Walks - Çukurbağ near Kaş - Sunday 11th March PDF Print E-mail

Çukurbağ walk

N.B. change of date: There are plenty of cracking walks in this part of Turkey, the jewel in the crown probably being the Lycian Way (Likya Yolu).  It’s one of the joys of living in Kalkan to have these trails right on our doorstep.

We want to let you know about a new project that is starting soon which combines a good walk with the chance of getting to know some of the local people from nearby villages.  Think of it not so much as “Likya Yolu” walking, but more “Çoban Yolu” (Shepherd’s Way).

There is a local association called the Kaş Yörük Türkmen Derneği that aims to preserve and promote the more traditional way of life of people living in nearby villages.  They also wish to raise awareness in the wider community, especially among those living in towns and cities.

YörükThis year the association is planning a number of local village walks as part of a social responsibility project they are working on.  They wish to invite people to explore local villages and get to know some of the locals and learn about their way of life.  People will be on hand to translate.

The first of these walks is scheduled to take place in Çukurbağ near Kaş on Sunday 11th March, starting at 10.00.  (N.B. Date changed form 4th March). Amongst other things there will be a visit to the local Dreams Academy (Düşler Akademisi) which provides support and care for young people with learning difficulties.

The visit will include an element of walking - perhaps a couple of hours.  The rest of the time we will be discovering something about the people who live in the village.  There is bound to be tea involved at some stage.

If you want to see the real “non-tourist” Turkey that lies without Kalkan this is a golden opportunity to do so, and a chance to learn something about the more traditional ways of life just a short drive from the coast.

There will be more walks planned throughout 2018 and we will bring you details when we have them.

If you are interested to take part in the Çukurbağ walk on Sunday 11th March please register your interest by sending us a message.  Participants may car share to get from Kalkan to the starting point, or if required transport can be arranged.    Contact KTLN
