So far, only a small number of cases have been positively confirmed, including cattle, sheep and a fox, but the authorities wish to contain the outbreak as quickly as possible. Honorary Director of Fethiye District Agriculture is reported as saying "We are taking necessary measures, and have started to vaccinate our animals". The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is also intending to apply chemicals by air, which is designed to inhibit the spread of rabies by wild animals. Whilst the Kalkan Haber news story is headed "Rabies panic in Fethiye", we are not sure that there is in fact a state of panic at the moment. The veterinary advice we have is that at this stage there is nothing to worry about in Kalkan. Photo courtesy of Kalkan Haber Share |
