As you may have read in our local news article of 24th February, we are holding another online auction to raise money for worthy causes in Kalkan.

A number of Kalkan businesses have kindly donated items that you can bid for.  We would like to thank every one of them for their generosity.

Last year, we raised almost £800.  Let's see if we can raise the bar in 2010.  Here, we tell you all you need to know.

When does the bidding start?
Officially, this weekend, from first thing on Saturday 20th March 2010.  However, over recent days some people have been getting us started with 'pre-bids'.  These still count.  So if you can't wait, feel free to start us off early.

When does the auction end?
At 9pm (UK time) on Sunday 21st March 2010.  The Classified Advert system may show the advert expires at a later date, but you should ignore that.  Sunday night is the deadline for the auction.

What is being auctioned?
To see everything that is available, look at the KTLN Classified AdvertsAll items are now listed.  There are 35 items on offer.

Once you have selected an item that you may be interested in, you will see a brief description of exactly what you are bidding for.

How can I see what people are bidding for an item?
Next to the description, you will see a Messages box.  This will display any bids made for the item.

How do I make a bid?
Firstly, you must be logged in as a registered member of KTLN, in order to make a bid.

Next to the Messages box, is a Send Messages box.  This is where you can enter your bid.  Just type in how much you wish to offer.  Your KTLN User Name will automatically be shown next to your message, so you don't need to type it.  Your bid will appear alongside any others in the Messages box.

Please note that all items show an indicative 'guide value' - an estimate of what you may ordinarily pay in Kalkan.  It is not a reserve price.  You can bid whatever you want.

Sterling (GBP) or Turkish lira (TL)?
Please bid in sterling GBP only.

How will I know if my bid is successful?
The KTLN team will monitor the bids, and will contact you as soon as possible if you have the highest bid, after the auction closes.

How do I pay?
The KTLN team will provide you with details of how to pay.

We give you options as to how you can pay.  One option is to use Paypal.  If you choose that way of paying, Paypal does make a small charge.  But there is an alternative, easy way to pay, using online banking, that does not incur any bank charges.

Payment should be in sterling (GBP) if at all possible.  If you can only pay in Turkish lira, don't worry - we will work something out with you.  But please make your bid in sterling anyway.

Does all of the money paid go directly to The KTLN Trust?
Yes, it does.  KTLN makes no deductions whatsoever.  None of this money goes to us to run the KTLN website.  So please bid generously!

How will you spend the money?
Please refer to our web page on The KTLN Trust

If you would like to see details of what we have already raised, and what we have done with the money, see our Donations Update page.

Last minute bids
This is meant to be a fun event.  Inevitably, with auctions of this nature, there tends to be a last minute flurry of activity, as people try to get in a final bid on the deadline.  This is what happened last year.

The KTLN website clock is the one that counts.  When you make a bid, our system will show the date, and time (to the second).  We will use this information to determine whose bid to take when the auction closes.  Our advice is not to leave it to the very last minute.

We aim to be scrupulously fair on any last minute hectic bidding, but please don't sue us if you feel that your final split second bid has not counted.  Our decision on who has won the auction items will be final.

Terms and conditions
The full terms and conditions of the auction can be found below.  These are in addition to our general terms of usePlease do not take part in the auction if you do not agree to be bound by them.

  • The KTLN Trust is a UK based fund, with money raised going to a UK based bank account. All bids should be in British pounds please. If it is easier for you to pay in Turkish Lira, we can make arrangements to deal with your payment, but your bid should still be made in British pounds.
  • The auction ends at 9pm UK time, on Sunday 21st March 2010, according to the KTLN website clock. We suggest you get your bids in early and avoid last minute bids. KTLN won't enter into any correspondence about last second bids that did not make the cut off.
  • Whilst the KTLN website server is pretty reliable, we can't give any 100% guarantees on availability.
  • The highest bidder will receive the item, subject to payment being made within 7 days of being notified as the successful bidder. Details of how to pay are shown on The KTLN Trust donations page.
  • All items must be taken up in 2010, but please note that some will only be available in the tourist season. For example, you can't take a boat trip in December.
  • You will be expected to co-operate with KTLN and the donor business to provide reasonable notice of when you would like to take up the item you have successfully bid for.  If there are any additional, special conditions attached to an item, these will be shown in the description of the item.
  • If you can't take up the item you have won, for any reason, there is no cash alternative.
  • You may pass the item on to friends or family if you are personally unable to take up the item.
  • You must agree to have your name (or your User Name on the KTLN website), published in a Local news article on KTLN, telling everyone who has won the auction items.
  • KTLN will notify successful bidders through the email address we have in our records.
  • KTLN provides no warranty or guarantee in respect of the items on offer.  You (the successful bidder), are making a voluntary donation to The KTLN Trust, and in return, a Kalkan business is donating an item to you.  No contract shall exist between you and KTLN.
  • KTLN will not be held responsible or liable for loss or damage of any nature whatsoever and however arising, including consequential loss, which may arise from you taking up the goods or services on offer.
  • If you bid for an item you are signifying your acceptance of these terms and conditions.  If you do not accept these terms and conditions, please do not bid in the auction.

Have fun!
