Kalkan buildingsKalkan Turkish Local News readers may like to read this very interesting article from the Hurriyet Daily news website.

It examines the impact of mass tourism on places such as Hisarönü, Ovac
ık and Ölüdeniz - resorts that are only about an hour away from Kalkan.

The article is entitled 'Villagers dream of fields of gold': a reference to the fact that people who had traditionally harvested crops from the fields, were lured by the prospect of 'tourist gold', and a chance to earn a year's income in 6 months.

Undoubtedly, many Turkish people will have benefited from mass tourism, but the article clearly shows that there is a price to pay.

The question is - is it a price worth paying?  You decide.  You can read the article, written by Jane Tuna, here: Hurriyet Daily News article.
