Road worksIt's one month since our last report, so here is an update on what is happening with Kalkan's roads.

Around town the Belediye workmen can be seen making good various road problems.  Currently, a group are working on Kalamar Road, just beyond the Ekinhan Hotel.

There is a focus of activity on Şehitler Caddesi.  The existing single carriageway is being made into a dual carriageway.  The new stretch of road will bring vehicles into town, from the traffic light junction, past the now empty Yüksel Collection furniture shop.  The dual carriageway will end where the Thursday market meets Şehitler Caddesi.

In Kızıltaş, the area of town that was highlighted in our recent survey as having the highest level of dissatisfaction on roads, there is no sign of activity, although improvements have been promised before the season starts.

We are told that work on the service road into Kızltaş that will go alongside the Arçelik shop, will start soon.  This will run parallel to the D400 highway, towards the Samira Deluxe.

Work on the Kalkan bypass continues.  The workmen are currently operating between the Kelebek hotel and the Luka restaurant junction.  Access to Kızıltaş and also the Begonvil development (Piynar Sokak), is possible, but the roads are temporary and quite rough.  Care is required due to the road conditions and the presence of diggers and lorries.

Some work is also taking place on the stretch of road leading to Kışla.

It is our understanding that work will continue throughout the year.  The developers are working to a deadline of 4th May 2011, and if this 2 km stretch of road is not completed, they will incur penalties.  As this is a national project, it does not come under the building season rules imposed by the Kalkan Belediye.

On the positive side, much work has taken place near to villas over the winter period, and we can only hope that as the tourist season starts, the noisy and dirty work will be moving along, out of town.

Here are some photos, which will give you an idea of what is going on.
