As expected, inflation rose sharply in Turkey last month.

The annual rate of inflation (CPI) increased from 8.19% to 10.13%, making it the highest rate in the EU area.

Those sectors contributing most to the increase were food, alcohol, transport, and hotels & restaurants.  See the CPI chart below.

The rate of inflation is expected to remain high for most of 2010, however the Central Bank of Turkey's target for the year end, remains at 6.5%.
