KTLN knew that there were plans to remove this temporary access road, however we never imagined that they would do so before the replacement local service road was in place. We were alerted to the problem by local property owner Leyla Cook, a Turkish national, who also has British citizenship. Leyla lives in one of the large white villas, in a group of three, on the mountainside - see photo below.
Leyla was due to fly home a few days ago, but couldn't leave due to the flight restrictions in Europe. Now, she is glad she is around so that she can take direct action to prevent local properties being cut off. Leyla is the lady in the middle of the group, in the photo below.
We understand that it will take two weeks to build the new service road, but in the meantime, the D400 contractors want to push on. It seems inconceivable that anyone would deliberately cut off such a large number of people. Just consider the safety implications, if say, a fire broke out. Let's hope that there will be some kind of intervention to stop this happening today. Kalkan Turkish Local News will keep you informed of any developments. Update at 6pm on Monday: the temporary access road is still there. The road contractors say they will return in the morning (Tuesday). Update at 6pm on Tuesday: the temporary access road is still there. Below: The acccess road that is to be removed.
