If you have any concerns, or believe that work is continuing in contravention of the Belediye ruling, you should contact the Belediye directly. Please note that the D400 work is excluded from this ruling, as it is a national project, which is outside of the Belediye's control. D400 - Kalkan Bypass On the subject of the D400, here is the latest news we have.We have heard from reliable sources that noisy roadworks are expected to stop some time in May. The contractors have been making quick progress by using explosives to shift the rock, in an attempt to get to a stage where they can stop for the summer months. However, it remains our understanding that whilst this is the aim, the contractors do still have a right to continue, if they believe that this is essential to meet their overall deadline. The Belediye is liaising with the D400 contractors to try and ensure that they do take into consideration the large number of toursits that will be coming to Kalkan this season. Looking at some specific short term objectives, we are told that the contractors are aiming to have the new junction by Luka restaurant operational by June 2010. They also wish to have the upper carriageway in the area from Luka to the bus station operational by July 2010. Eventaully, this will be the Fethiye-bound side of the dual carriageway. Kızıltaş access road Turning now to the question of the access road dilemma at the end of Kızıltaş, (Piynar Sokak), there is some hope on the horizon. We spoke to the Belediye today, and also a local resident, who is affected by the threatened closure of the access road. A solution is on the cards, whereby an alternative temporary access road will be opened up that will link up to Istiklal Caddesi, near to Mediteran Apart/Hotel. We are assured by the Belediye that the existing access road will not be cut off before this emergency route has been opened up. It is still not clear exactly how long this solution will take to put in place, or indeed how it will be financed. The following Google map shows the planned temporary solution. The existing access road to be removed is shown with red dots. The new local service road, yet to be built, is shown with blue dots. The emergency access road to be built as a temporary solution is shown with orange dots, and you can see that this emerges near to the Mediteran Apart/Hotel. Update Friday 23rd April: Please note that a revised access road plan has been introduced, so the map below is no longer relevant. See local news story today. The important thing is that the existing access road will not be cut until the alternative is in place.
