Lycian Balloons is to introduce flights between Dalaman and Kalkan from 1 May 2009.

What a great way to begin or end your holiday.  If you have ever experienced the exhilaration of a balloon flight, perhaps in Cappadoccia, you will be able to appreciate how good this new service will be.  Part of the package includes an overnight stay in a 4 star hotel in Dalaman so you don't need to worry about rushing for your flight.

Using the latest satellite navigation systems, recent trials have resulted in journey times of between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the prevailing head and tail winds.

Lycian Balloons PR Manager, Belinda Gidding says that in partnership with leading aeronautical engineers AFA Endüstri Turkiye, they have developed a new 35 berth balloon with lightweight titanium/carbon-fibre engines, that can propel the craft at speeds of up to 55 kph (34 mph).  The balloon has four engines, each one capable of being independently directed for maximum manouverability.

The new directional engines and air cushion landing system allows the vehicle to land on flat land, grass, swamp, snow or on water, giving the vehicle fully amphibious capability.  It also allows the balloon to land without the need for a large ground crew and ground-landing infrastructure.

Ms Gidding explained, “This landing system and new engine, will allow the balloons to land at the new yacht marina planned for Firnaz Bay, near Kalkan, but initially we will be using a spot by Kalkan harbour".
