Kalkan roadsUpdated Sun 11th July 2010
Here is the Kalkan Turkish Local News roundup of road developments in Kalkan.

Most activity still relates to the Kalkan bypass, the D400, but there is some news on local road improvements.

The D400 Fethiye to Kaş highway
In the last month, work has begun on finishing the road surface between the Luka restaurant junction, and the bus station.

An initial layer of tar has been laid on the Fethiye bound carriageway, as you can see in the photos below.  There is an accessible route for vehicles and pedestrians, from Kızıltaş to town.

We are informed that the upper carriageway is now open, which means that traffic is no longer diverted through town, avoiding scenes as shown below. They are still working on the lower carriageway.Kalkan traffic

Local roads
Local service roads adjacent to the D400 have been improved, with more concrete laid, however there is still more to do on service roads.

In Ortaalan, bordering on Kalamar Bay, and behind Cafe Vita, the Belediye have laid more concrete, to bring an improved road surface to local residents.

And more concrete has been put down in Kışla, specifically on Kışla Sokak, Günüuk Sokak, Payam Sokak and Koza Sokak.  See photos below.

At the traffic light junction, the small road by the Arçelik shop is now being opened up.  We reported earlier that there were significant challenges in developing this road, however it looks like the engineers have found a way forward.  This new road will provide an additional acccess point for Kızıltaş residents.

In Kızıltaş, work on Istiklal Caddesi continues, as more concrete has been put down.  We are informed that next year (probably towards the year end), the road that runs parallel, but higher up the mountain, Vatan Caddesi, will get the same treatment.
