KTLN website outage - sorry PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 August 2010
ShareKalkan Turkish Local News was not available for a short time this morning due to a technical problem with our server.

I would explain the details to you, but most of what the KTLN webmaster* told me went over my head.

I am assured that everything is back to normal now, which is good news for KTLN regulars.

And there are quite a few of you out there!  You may be interested to see a few statistics.

In March 2009 KTLN didn't exist.  Now we have over 2,700 registered members, and we are attracting well over 200 new members a month.  In the last month it was nearer 300.

To be honest, we have no idea where you are all coming from, and we are genuinely surprised by the numbers, but you are all very welcome.  We think it says a lot about Kalkan, as a tourist venue and a place to live, that we get such interest.

When the website went down this morning, I did ask the KTLN webmaster if it was due to the surge in demand from users.  He assures me it isn't, but you can see why I asked the question.

In the month of July:
  • we had, on average, 1,670 visits per day - the most on one day was 2,418 visits (Tuesday 27th July).
  • we served (and you downloaded) 247,089,515 KBytes of data - more than double the figure for April
  • we served almost 1.2 million KTLN pages (which would include webcam images)
  • our busiest time of day (most hits) was between 6pm and 8pm (Turkish time)

Anyway, sorry again for the short outage this morning.

* By the way, the KTLN webmaster is our equivalent of Top Gear's Stig.  We can't show you his photo.  He stands in KTLN Mission Control, in deepest Kettering, hands on hips, in his all in one lycra outfit, with a big 'W' emblazoned on his chest, like a coiled spring waiting to pounce on any technical gremlin that might crop up.
