The new fire engine in KalkanKalkan Belediye recently took delivery of a new fire engine.

The brand new Mercedes Atego 1518 is in addition to the rather tired looking machine that has been the sole vehicle in service hitherto.

With a 4.25 litre, 4 cylinder, direct injection diesel engine, this Merc should cope well with the Kalkan terrain.


The emergency number shown on the side is 110.  This number is routed to the Kalkan Belediye.  For forest fires the number to call is 177.

With the hot weather set to continue it is perhaps worth repeating the message to take care if walking or picnicing in the countryside.  Fires can be easily started in the current weather conditions, as the ground is tinder dry.

We might have a brand new fire engine, but let's hope it does not have to be deployed too often.

For information, it was deployed at around 6pm on Monday 2nd August to extinguish a small ground fire close to Bella Monte hotel.  A discarded cigarette is thought to be the cause.  The damage caused was minor.
