Hot summerThe weather has been pretty hot in many parts of Turkey over recent weeks, and Kalkan is roasting.

The high temperatures, (combined with high humidity), are set to continue.  You can see the latest Accuweather forecast on the KTLN home page.

Turkish news programmes have been urging people to think about their health in these hot conditions.

There have been reminders about keeping in the shade in the hottest part of the day, and drinking lots of water to maintain fluid levels.  Eating ice-cream is not a bad idea either - as you can see from the photo above!

This year, Ramazan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, begins on Wednesday 11th August.  From this date, until 9th September, many Turkish people will not eat or drink anything between sunrise and sunset.  Imagine how hard that must be in these weather conditions.

You can read more about Ramazan in this KTLN Calendar article.

If you missed The KTLN Kalkan Guide to Kalkan weather, published in August 2009, here is a link: The KTLN Kalkan Guide to Kalkan weather.  Here you can find month by month weather statistics, and other interesting information, on things such as the Meltemi and Khamsin winds that visit Kalkan.

Also, may we remind KTLN readers about our 'Beat the Heat' summer recipies, which we published this time last year.  Nobody wants to turn on the oven in August do they?  To see our 'no cook' summer recipies, click here.

It is fascinating to observe how differently local people and tourists behave in the hot weather.  Most locals stay in the shade during the day, whilst many holidaymakers prefer to lie out in the hot sun, soaking up the rays.  But that's what you do when you are on holiday in Kalkan, right?  You roast in Turkey.

Whatever you do, please take care if you are out in the sun.
