Road barriersThe Belediye are making some alterations to the barriers on the road by the taxi rank.

It would seem that some traffic was getting round the barriers by taking a short cut through the taxi rank.  This is no longer possible.

There is also a new electronic barrier which can be raised to allow traffic coming from the town centre through.

You can see from the photo below the new low metal barriers (right), which allow taxis to drive into the taxi rank area, but there is no access now into town.  The pavement in this area is also being re-done.

Road barriers

The photo below shows the new electronic barrier.  As you are driving out of town, there is a button on the left, just before the barrier, which raises the barrier arm, when pressed.

We are assured that the barrier has a built-in sensor, which prevents the arm falling on to vehicles or pedestrians.  However, we wouldn't suggest testing this for yourself.

Road barriers

Below: The barrier as seen from the other side.  We understand that this new barrier has been introduced as pedestrians were tripping over the low-level hinged, metal barrier.  It should also be much quieter, as the previous road level barrier was noisy when traffic passed over it.

Road barriers

So even though one low-level barrier has been removed, others have been installed.  Please take care not to trip over them, especially in the dark.  The British 'Health & Safety' culture does not operate in Kalkan, and simply, everyone is expected to watch where they walk.

And whilst on this subject, we are aware that a lady recently fell over the chains near to the Sahil Güvenlik (Coastguard) on the harbour, breaking her hip and lower arm.  So again, please take care.
