I joined KTLN for the local news.  It's great to keep in touch with what is happening throughout the year in Kalkan, especialy when it is cold and wet in England, gives me something to look forward to.

Alcohol yokOn Sunday 12th September, there is a national referendum across Turkey about constitutional reform.

KTLN tries to steer clear of national politics, however there is one side effect of Sunday's vote which you may like to know about.

The law in Turkey says that on the day that there is a national vote or referendum, no alcohol is to be sold or consumed.

This is presumably so that all voters can exercise their franchise with a degree of sobriety, and a clear head.

So how does this law affect tourists and other foreigners - people who don't have a vote?

Well in fact, the law makes no express provision on this point, (as far as we could tell from our translation of the official government website).  It appears to be a blanket ban.

Unless we have misinterpreted the laws, you may find it hard to buy an alcoholic drink in shops, supermarkets and restaurants this Sunday.

Think of it as giving your liver a day off!
