Kalkan Belediye Board meeting 7th September 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Belediye Board September 2010There was no Board meeting in August.

Here are details of the Board meeting held on Tuesday 7th September 2010. Sorry for the delay in publication.

There were 8 members of the public present.  The meeting was quite brief.

The Mayor suggested a few last minute changes to the agenda.  This was agreed, but with some reservations expressed by certain Board members.

Item one on the agenda was the re-election of the Belediye planning sub-committee.  Three men were duly elected: Hasan Erkek (CHP), Raşit Akdeniz (CHP) and Hakan Kalçın (AKP).

Belediye Board September 2010The Board discussed the possibility of serving a wider constituency.  Some areas of outlying villages, such as parts of Islamlar, do not receive a full range of services, such as rubbish collection.

The Belediye would like to do more to ensure full coverage, but it was agreed that this can only be when adequate resources are in place, and this means deferring any extension of services for the time being.

It is the intention of the Belediye to extend 'canalisation' - the laying and connection of pipes for waste water/sewage.  It was agreed that further planning is required to bring this about.  As this work progresses in the future, it is likely that the Belediye will seek financial contributions from property owners.

Kalkan Belediye has been invited to join an organisation - the Tourism Infrastructure Union.  After some discussion, it was clear that a financial contribution is required to join, however the benefits of membership are not obvious.  The Belediye voted not to join.

Kalkan landA letter was read out by the Mayor, from a Turkish man who was writing to point out certain planning irregularities regarding a couple of large parcels of land.

We cannot be certain about the precise location, but we know the land is somewhere between the Likya and Pirat Hotels and on the coast side of Akdeniz Caddesi.  See the Google map - right, (Google copyright acknowledged).

KTLN is clearly not in a position to comment on the veracity of the contents of the letter, however suffice to say, the Mayor felt it important enough to read it to the Board.

Beyond that, we prefer not to comment, as matters may be subject to legal proceedings.

You may recall that KTLN recently reported on the fact that Kalkan has a new ambulance.  Well, it has arrived, and very nice it is too.  See photos below.

Kalkan ambulance (nakil)

As we pointed out in our earlier article, technically, the new vehicle operating in Kalkan is not an ambulance, but a 'nakil' (transporter), as there is no qualified medical person on board at the moment.  In an emergency a local doctor could use the equipment, and it is intended to recruit a qualified nurse.

However, the Kalkan Belediye has been told that in view of the number of people who are in Kalkan during the main tourist season, a proper ambulance ('yüz on iki' - 112) can be supplied by the government.  This is in addition to the vehicle just delivered.  All the Belediye has to do is find a suitable location for the ambulance vehicle and for the trained operators to live.

We hope that by 2011, Kalkan will have its very own ambulance.  This will provide great reassurance to many Kalkan visitors.

This was quite a brief meeting, and there were no questions raised at the end by members of the public.
