I think the main reasons [for joining] are that it's so useful and informative.  KTLN is the only Kalkan site I need! Thanks for your hard work!

D400 roadworksKTLN did not publish a roads update earlier this month, because quite simply, there was nothing significant to report.

However, we do now have some news on the recommencement of roadworks on the D400 Kalkan by-pass.

We saw workers yesterday (Tuesday), preparing for the lower, Kaş-bound road of the dual-carriageway to be asphalted.

The stretch of road between the bus station and Luka restaurant should be completely surfaced - upper and lower carriageways, and water pipes laid, over the next couple of weeks.

D400 roadworksThis is not particularly noisy work, but there will be a strong smell of tar as it is laid, and if you are attempting to cross this road on foot (if, for example, you are walking into town from the Kızıltaş area of Kalkan), then you may want to think about your footwear, and how it will cope with recently laid tar.

We turn now to the question of when the noisy excavation work will start again.  The first thing to say is that this work is now heading more towards Kışla and Ulugöl.  The residents of Kızıltaş have the worst of the noise behind them.

We have been told from a reliable source that this work is scheduled to begin on Monday 1st November, although please do bear in mind that you may see some workmen before that date, planning and preparing the equipment.

We normally try to get confirmation from more than one source, however at the time of writing nobody else has been prepared to be quite so specific, (other than to say 'at the end of the tourist season').  However, our source is well placed, and we believe that this information is reliable.

The developers are working to a deadline of 4th May 2011, to complete this 2km stretch of dual-carriageway, from the traffic light junction, to a point just beyond the Kışla turn off.
