A new barbers shop called Sweeney Todd's has opened where Sunny Rent a Car used to be (close to Smile supermarket).  There is no truth to the rumour that Mrs Miggins Pie Shop is opening next door.

A new bon marche is opening soon called Parc Kalkan.  This is situated between Kartin supermarket and Turuncu Bilgisayar on Şehitler Cad.  A bon marche (French for 'good market') is a small collection of shops, and this one will have a place to eat, drink and chill out, as well as a number of retail positions.  They are turning what was a derelict piece of land into something that sounds quite attractive.

The Saffron restaurant is to open shortly, above the Utopia Bar, where Point restaurant used to be.  They will have WiFi.  The owner used to have Havana restaurant.

The Trio restaurant by the harbour is expanding a little - a bit like some of us who eat there!  The spot next door which used to be Advantage Properties is to have new decking flooring and a number of sofas where Trio customers can chill out.

The Ivy restaurant is under new ownership.  The new business owners have retained the trading name and also the main chef, but they will be making their mark with a few changes.  It will now be run by the owners of Cafe del Mar.

The owners of Daphne restaurant have decided not to reopen this season.

A tiny gem of a place is opening on Tuesday 5th May in Islamlar.  The Üzüm Bistro can only cater for up to 8 people, and it is a little off the beaten track, however it is well worth tracking down.  The views are amazing.  You must book at least one day before you intend to go.  There are no signs from the main road, so we suggest you refer to our business directory for directions and a contact telephone number.

The Belediye cafe by Kalkan Beach is closed at the moment, however it is hoped that it will be open again within a couple of weeks.  The Belediye are currently trying to arrange new management.

The taxi drivers have relocated back to their original spot, opposite the old Belediye on Mustafa Kocakaya Cad. vacating the position they had in the main town car park.

Finally, close to Akbel, on the hill overlooking Kalamar Bay, (called Dış Tepe, by the way), the LaVANTA development continues.  Phase 1 is scheduled to complete this summer and we are told that 30 out of 49 units have been sold.  Buyers are mostly from the UK.
