I always thought there was a need for a website that would convey all the current news, and local information in English to expats, as well as tourists visiting Kalkan, and I think you do it very well.

Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey comes to Kalkan PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 17 April 2009

Right on schedule, at just after 2pm on Friday 17th April, the circus that is the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey came to a warm and sunny Kalkan.  Today was Stage 6 of the race, with a gruelling but scenic 194 km ride from Fethiye to Finike.

Last year we saw the riders up close as they started a stage in Kalkan, however this year we saw just a fleeting glimpse of the riders as they sped down the new road, towards the main D400 junction, and then past the Jandarma station, brushing past Kışla and on towards Kaş.

The new Kalkan Belediye gets to work PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 16 April 2009

The new Mayor of Kalkan, Saim Karakurt, and his team have been hard at work for just over a week now, so we thought we would bring you our first report on the new administration.

The protracted hiatus surrounding the confirmation of the result meant that things did not get off to the best possible start.  The handover has not been exactly smooth and it would be fair to say that a number of challenges remain in finalising an orderly handover.  We will report more on this in future updates.

What we can tell you is that the Belediye Board, the equivalent of a UK local council committee, has been established.

Bring & Buy Sale to improve play facilities PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 15 April 2009

Update: starting time is now 2pm.

A group of ladies in Kalkan are organising a social gathering, including a bring and buy sale to raise funds to improve the children's play facilities in Kalkan.  There are 5 playgrounds in Kalkan (see the KTLN map for details of their location) and it is hoped that enough funds can be raised to make a difference, by making them more attractive for Kalkan youngsters.

The proposed date for this event is Tuesday 21st April 2009, starting at 3pm.  This is a particularly appropriate time to be raising money for local children as Thursday 23rd April will be Children's Day in Turkey.
