As an owner of a property in Kalkan, this site seemed an excellent way of keeping in touch, especially as for much of the year I am not able to be out there.

Jandarma make an arrest as burglaries continue PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 17 June 2017

Kalkan JandarmaKalkan is a safe place to live or visit on holiday, but like lots of other tourist resorts it does suffer from burglaries - especially in the main tourist season.

The bad news is that criminals are currently out and about in Kalkan, operating mostly at night.  Between 03.00 and 05.00 seems to be a favourite time, but we have also seen breaks ins occur in the evening when people are out in town.  The good news is that the Jandarma soldiers are also out and about, and yesterday they had some success in capturing a burglar.

We wanted to tell you how the Jandarma detained this suspect with help from members of the public.

EU mobile data roaming charges scrapped but what about Turkey? PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 15 June 2017

Mobie data roaming chargesThe good news for people who travel around the EU is that from today data roaming charges for mobile phones have been banned.

According to an EU press release ‘consumers will be able to use their mobile device when travelling in the EU, paying the same prices as at home, ie to “Roam like at Home”. Any voice call, SMS and data session made while travelling abroad in the EU will be deducted from the monthly package of minutes, SMS and data in the home country with no extra charges.’

But Turkey is not in the EU so does it affect visitors travelling to Kalkan?  The answer is maybe.

Transfer With Me web site temporarily unavailable PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 June 2017

TransferWithMe.comWe are sorry to say that our sister web site Transfer With Me is temporarily unavailable due to a technical issue.

It’s not a malicious hacking scenario but rather a technical issue that arose during some routine housekeeping being done by the company that hosts the site.

We are currently evaluating what can be done.  In the meantime apologies to anyone who was planning to use the site.

Transfer With Me is a free to use web site dedicated to facilitating transfer shares.  It has helped to match hundreds of travellers - mostly for transfers to and from Dalaman Airport.

Kaş Kalkan promotional video - share the love! PDF Print E-mail

Kaş Belediye video

With the mainstream UK media drip-feeding us a never ending diet of negative stories from Turkey, countries neighbouring Turkey and indeed Europe itself I wanted to have a reality check and remind KTLN readers what it is really like here in Kalkan.

To be honest I know that many of you, dear KTLN readers, don't need reminding but please feel free to spread this message to those who may be in need of reassurance.  Share the love!

I highly recommend watching the following video from Kaş Belediye.  It's a short film published on You Tube that promotes the area where I am fortunate enough to live, and it's rather good.  It features many places that Kalkan visitors would be familiar with - in fact most of the locations featured are within a short drive of Kalkan.

Saturday, 10 June 2017

Flights to KalkanThe tourist season is well underway and if you’re not already getting a nice even tan in Kalkan right now you’re probably thinking about the prospect of it some time soon - hopefully.

We want to draw your attention to something you might be interested in later on in the year.  We thought you might like to know that it will be possible to fly out to Kalkan via Dalaman International airport this December if you fancy a bit of winter sunshine.

We have obtained the following details about Thomas Cook Airlines flights from London Gatwick and Manchester.  If you are aware of any other scheduled flights out of season direct to Dalaman please let us know so we can share details with other Kalkan fans.

Here is what we have.

GIYKIMBIL: short term property rentals and related matters - update June 2017 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 06 June 2017

Property rentalsThis report is about the new requirement for registering guests renting out holiday villas and apartments.  It replaces our earlier report published on 15th April 2017, following further discussions we have had with the Jandarma in Kaş.

The original report from 15th April 2017 has been archived but is available for viewing by clicking here.

We hope that this new report clarifies some of the confusion that arose following the implementation of this regulation.  However we should stress that differences of opinion remain - particularly if you look further afield to neighbouring provinces.

We said in our previous report that we got the impression that the implementation of these rules was a fluid and dynamic chain of events and that the practical details had yet to be finalised.  We also said that things would become clearer over time.  This has proved to be the case.
