I joined KTLN because your website offered the most detail and latest information - and in an upbeat manner - of any site I've seen so far. I love the web cams, local news, business info, things to do, etc.

This page will let you know about funds raised and how the money will be spent.

The KTLN TrustHere is a summary of what The KTLN Trust has done, since its launch on 1st May 2009, up to 1st September 2011.

In this report, we outline what money has been received, where it has come from, and how it has been spent.

You will see that we still have funds in the bank, and we would welcome your suggestions as to how this can be spent, in and around Kalkan.

But before we plunge into the detail, let's tell you some headline figures.

The KTLN TrustThanks to KTLN readers, and the support of businesses in Kalkan, The KTLN Trust has so far raised a sum equivalent to over 31,000TL, or if you prefer, in sterling, a sum of over £12,500.

To everyone who has contributed, we want to tell you once again, that you are fantastic, and on behalf of all the beneficiaries, in and around Kalkan, we thank you so much.

Below, we show a table summarising the numbers. You will see that both British sterling and Turkish lira have been donated - the amounts are detailed separately.

However, for simplicity, in this report, we sometimes show a combined figure. Where we combine the two currencies, please note that for consistency, we use an indicative exchange rate of 2.5.

Around 35% of donations have come from banner adverts on KTLN, whilst the remaining 65% has been donated by you, the KTLN readers.

The reference to 'costs/expenditure' above, relates to when KTLN was set up in 2009. We deducted the amount shown from banner advert income, to cover a few of our set up costs. That was a one off. Since the end of 2009, all banner advert income has gone directly to The KTLN Trust.

Some donations are received in sterling, however most of the money spent by The KTLN Trust is in Turkish lira. So you will note that we have transferred some sterling across to Turkish lira.

Here is how we spent the money so far
In 2009 we gave 3,000TL to the Kalkander Association to support local children with further/higher education. We gave another 3,000TL in 2010, for the same purpose.  We will probably provide a further 3,000TL shortly, as we believe that this is money well spent.  The Kalkander Association is ideally placed to determine the most deserving cases.

The KTLN TrustKalkan First School has benefitted, with two laptop computers, two computer projectors and screens. One of these laptops was donated by generous KTLN members, and The KTLN Trust paid for it to be configured for school purposes. The total spent by The KTLN Trust is 3,971TL.

In 2010, The Trust donated an additional 1,000TL towards the building of the new amphitheatre, at the school.

In the same year, we made two payments of 1,000TL each to the Kalkander Association, to assist local people who needed treatment for severe medical conditions, where there was no alternative funding available.

At the end of 2010 we paid for every child at the Rehabilitation Centre to have a new pair of shoes - that's 42 pairs in total. The cost of this 'Save our Soles' initiative, came to 1,290TL.

The KTLN TrustAnd when local fundraisers held a Kalkan Children in Need appeal, we made it easy for those of you not in Kalkan, to donate.  We said that anything donated between 23rd November and 31st December 2010, would go to the appeal.

We can confirm that you donated a total of £295 plus 100TL, and these funds were passed on to the Kalkan Children in Need fundraising organisers.

KTLN is happy to work with, and to promote the events of, other fundraisers in Kalkan.

The most recent Trust spend was a sum of 5,365TL, back in the Spring of 2011, when we bought sports kit and equipment for Kalkan First School.  It was quite a significant purchase.  We kitted out the entire girl's volleyball team, and the boy's football team, and we also provided lots of equipment - footballs, basketballs, volleyballs, table tennis equipment etc.

At the request of Kalkan first School, and included in the overall figure above, we spent 430TL kitting out the girl's volleyball team at nearby Sütlüğen school.  Being more remote, they don't usually benefit from outside donations, and we thought it would be good to spread the funds a little wider.

Almost three quarters of funds raised have been spent.  As at 1st September 2011, The KTLN Trust has spent, 73% of funds raised.

But we still have a significant sum available to spend - £1,679.86 and 4,131.47TL. That's roughly 8,300TL, if expressed in one currency, (using an indicative exchange rate of 2.5).

We need your suggestions as to how this money should be spent. We don't want to keep it in the bank. So please let us have your ideas.

Finally, may we take this opportunity to once again, thank you for your generosity. If you have read some of our local news reports, perhaps you will have seen what a difference you have made.

KTLN is brought to you free of charge.  If you value this web site, may we invite you to click on the following link, and help us to raise even more money for good causes in Kalkan.
