Here are some tips on how to make the most of the KTLN website. Please note that to see the website in full you need to register as a member. Why not join us? It's totally free. Katie-Ellen Love KTLN. Love Kalkan. Search Facilities In the top right corner of the home page you will see a search box. You can use this to search the entire content of the KTLN website. You must enter a minimum of 3 characters. Please note that some words may use Turkish characters, such as Ş, Ç, Ö, Ü or Ğ. In the top centre of the home page, just below the Kalkan Turkish Local News banner, you will see a Google search box. This is a Google search engine, but fiendishly tweaked to focus on all things Kalkan and Turkish on the internet. Let our custom search take the hard work out of searching for Kalkan web sites. KTLN on the move If you want to read KTLN on your portable device (iPod, iPad, iPhone, Blackberry etc), we have created a view especially for you at www.iKalkan.com. You can read about it here: iKalkan Main Menu - World News We have got feeds from major news suppliers to bring you news from all over the world. You can choose which category of news you are interested, and see the latest headlines. Simply click on the summary article to go through to the full article.
Main Menu - Local News We write local news items for Kalkan, but we also bring you feeds from the Fethiye Times and the Enjoy Kalkan forum, so you can easily see the latest things appearing on those sites too. Again, all you have to do is click on the summary article to be redirected to the full article.
If you have an intersting story for us to publish, contact the KTLN team using the Contact Us tab at the top of this page. Main Menu - Business Directory The KTLN Business Directory can be found in the Main Menu or in the Knowledge Bank, and provides useful contact information for many businesses and organisations in Kalkan. We believe it to be the most comprehensive and up to date directory in Kalkan.
This directory database has been created especially for KTLN and whilst it may not have every single business in Kalkan, we have tried to focus on the ones that our target audience will find most useful. In order to make searching easier, we show business names without any Turkish characters. You can search by name, or by category (business type).
Also, don't forget that many of the businesses featured in our Business Directory can also be found in our map of Kalkan. You can access the map through our Main Menu.
If you run a business or local organisation and find that you are not in the directory, please let us know and we will add you. You can also ask us to upgrade your entry in the database, for example, by adding photographs and text, telling KTLN users more about your business. In effect you can have a whole KTLN page dedicated to your business. If you wish to enhance your Business Directory entry in this way, all we ask is that you make a donation to The KTLN Trust. Contact us for more details.
If you have concerns about an entry you have seen in the directory, such as out of date information, please notify us and we will put things right. What are the star ratings for? Each article on this website can be awarded a star rating. They are not important for ordinary articles, however we would like members to use the rating system for businesses in our Business Directory. So if you have had great service from a shop, restaurant, or any other business, why not give it a good star rating to let others know. One star is not so good and five stars is excellent. You could also give star ratings for Places to Visit - not a rating on our article, but on the place itself.
Main Menu - Day in the Life Between April 2009 and July 2010, this feature was updated every Monday morning, providing over 70 profiles of (mostly) Kalkan people. From August 2010, Day in the Life is updated with profiles on an ad-hoc basis. If you know someone living in Kalkan who would make a good subject, drop us a line.
Main Menu - Flight & Travel Information Here you will find lots of useul links to travel websites, and UK and Turkish airports (so you can check on arrivals and departures). You can search for flights using Skyscanner. Plus we provide some useful travel tips.

The KTLN Knowledge Bank is a library of useful information for English speaking people who are visiting Kalkan, property owners or residents. It is organised in a way which signposts topics in a logical order. Simply choose the section you want, then the category and then select an article. When listed, the articles display the first few lines only. Simply click on Read more to see the article in full. The Emergency Situation articles are available to everyone, not just registered members, and can be accessed via the Main Menu.
The Knowledge Bank cannot possibly be a complete oracle, but we have tried to focus on things that may be most useful or of most interest, and we have also tried to ensure there is rigour around the collation of information to ensure a high quality standard. We do our best, but would draw your attention to the disclaimer contained in our Terms of Use.
We are always very interested to hear from any member who would like to enhance this database by sharing useful information with other KTLN members. If you have a contribution for the Knowledge Bank database, please contact us.
Main Menu - Map of Kalkan This is a Google map which has over 400 places of interest in Kalkan marked. Select the category you are interested in, e.g. Banks, and the map will show where all 6 banks in Kalkan are located. You can click on either the name of the bank in the list, or on the icon on the map and you will be provided with further details. You can zoom in and out, or click and drag the map to see a wider area.
Amongst other things, the categories include WiFi (wireless internet) spots in Kalkan.
Now that Kalkan has lots of new street signs we thought we would use proper street names in our articles and in our map, so for example you will tend to find we refer to Cumhuriyet Cadessi, although many people may refer to it as Kalamar Road.
Please tell us if you spot something wrong, or have details of a business that is not shown, and help us to keep this right up to date.
Main Menu - Photo Gallery Some interesting photos for you to look at. Think you know Kalkan? Take a look at our Guess Where album and see how many you can identify. If you have any quality Kalkan photos, drop us a line and we may decide to publish them. We should also mention that before we set up the KTLN website, we posted many of our Kalkan photos on a Google Picasaweb page. If you want to see these photos, click here: Yelkener Picasawab Photos
Main Menu - Translator This is a simple Google translator. It can cope with common words and simple phrases. It's not always perfect, but it's easy to use and it's free. If you put in a lengthy complex piece of text it may give you some bizarre translations.
Main Menu - Ten Second Turkish Something you can dip in and out of. It's no substitute for proper tuition or learning, but you may pick up a few useful words you can use in Kalkan.
Main Menu - Totally Trivial Turkish Titbits This is just a bit of fun. Find out interesting facts about Kalkan and Turkey.
Main Menu - What's On Calendar Find out about events in Kalkan, and check for notable dates, such as bank holidays. If you have something that you would like to go in to the calendar, please drop us a line.
Main Menu - Kalkan Live Webcams There are two ways in which you can see webcam views. If you click on the Kalkan Bay Webcam photo in the top right corner of the home page, you will be able to view photos of Kalkan Bay taken at 2 minute intervals over the past 24 hours (from dawn to 10pm). You can scroll back and forth one picture at a time or 25 frames at a time. This enables you to see, amongst other things, sunrises and sunsets.
If you select Kalkan Live Webcams from the Main Menu, you can see the very latest images from four webcams - the Kalkan Bay webcam, and the Mavi Bilgisayar webcam at the top of town, the Kalamar Bay webcam, and the old town webcam, hosted by Coast @ Gironda. Our webcams take a photo every few seconds, so the images are close to being live.
Occasionally, the webcams may not be working due to technical problems. This may be due to a prolonged failure of the electricty suppply or ADSL problems.
KTLN Feedback Got a question about how to use our website? Want to comment on an article (good or bad)? Spotted an error somewhere in our content? If you are a registered member you can use the feedback facility to send in a quick message to us. If we are online at the time, we will respond. We can't man this all the time though, so if you don't get an immediate response you can always drop us a line by clicking on the Contact Us tab at the top of the home page. We will get back to you as soon as we can. The KTLN admin team may also use this facility to bring you short news messages, where perhaps a full blown local news item is not justified. We would respectfully ask that this feature is not used as a general chat facility.
